As our Sports Program Assistant, you'll be at the heartbeat of our sports programs, responsible for the timely initiation of all activities, games, and programs, making decisions regarding crowd control, inclement weather, and rules and regulations during athletic events. You'll apply your general knowledge of assigned sports, including how the game is played and its principles, practice, and techniques, and may even be called upon to officiate games when necessary. This role also includes training, scheduling, and supervising umpires.
You'll utilize your excellent people, communication, and conflict management skills to resolve conflicts and provide customer service for coaches, parents, and team players. Hiring Salary is $18.00/hour.
The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first-come, first-served basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.
This position is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, a related field or experience in lieu of education
Experience:
At least 2 years progressively responsible experience in the recreation administration, including concentrated work in sports. An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Experience in sports officiating is desired.
Preferred Qualifications:
In order to be successful in this position, applicants must have the ability to obtain a Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record. Sports Officiating certifications desired. You will have the opportunity to occasionally use your own personal equipment (i.e. Vehicle, cell phone, laptop, tools, etc.) during the course of your employment.

Skills:
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Must have strong computer skills to include, keyboarding, Microsoft Office suites to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and internet.
Abilities:
The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens and private organizations. The ability to respond to customer inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. The ability to motivate staff, create a positive work environment, and hold staff accountable for achieving measurable goals and developing their skills. The ability to handle sensitive and stressful situations with tact and diplomacy; Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; Ability to recognize, analyze, and implement needed organizational systems.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
In order to be successful in this position, applicants must have the ability to obtain a Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record. Sports Officiating certifications desired. You will have the opportunity to occasionally use your own personal equipment (i.e. Vehicle, cell phone, laptop, tools, etc.) during the course of your employment. Valid state driver's license or ability to obtain one. Current CPR and First Aid certification required or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months.
