OVERVIEW
JVC Logistics, LLC is a freight brokerage organization that works together with carrier JVC Enterprises, LLC to arrange and execute shipments on behalf of PFI Family of Companies. JVC Logistics, LLC (hereinafter referred to as ‘JVCL’) needs an experienced freight broker to assist the current team with freight operations. This position reports to the Director of Transportation at JVCL and works closely with staff at the various brands to ensure shipments are executed proficiently.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
•The ideal candidate will be responsible for proficient use of JVCL’s in-house Transportation Management System, or TMS – Prophesy.
•Build booked loads into Prophesy to include pickup & delivery dates, times, division, pick up/delivery #’s, carrier, and temperature (if applicable).
•Arrange transportation with 3rd party truckload carriers that meet specific predetermined selection criteria.
•Demonstrate timely and accurate communication with carriers for changes, delays, or other unforeseen issues that can happen during transit.
•Executing loads within the TMS System to ensure correct and concise information for reporting.
•Track and tracing shipments – this involves updating shipments within the TMS that include rate confirmations, accessorial charges, detention/layover, etc.
•Comparison of market rate quotations to real-time verbal negotiations with 3rd party truckload carriers through historical record and online freight tools (DAT Loads).
•Communicate effectively with the carrier and customer service representative for respective business units.
•Management of data in both TMS and shared spreadsheets respective to various business units.
•Verify through carrier tracking software (mycarrierportal.com) that all carriers meet requirements in the areas of regulations, insurance, and peer review in the marketplace.
•Shrewd assignment of carriers based on the categories of safety, service, and cost.
•Work with carriers & Transportation Manager on contracts and concessions between various brands/business units & 3rd party carriers.
•Assist with new product line shipments & lanes.
•Secure backhauls if needed for JVC Enterprises, LLC or Peterson Farms INC assets needing to get back to Michigan.
•Identify and report OS&D claims to Transportation Manager and other stakeholders.
•Must be available by phone or “on call” during selected times & weekends. There is a rotation amongst the team.
•Provide any suggestions for continuous improvement.
•The majority of the responsibilities of this position pertain to PFI Family of Company Shipments (Internal Business).
Education
• High school graduate or equivalent
• Bachelor’s degree Preferred
• Work Experience
• 1-3 years of relative experience in the transportation field preferred
• 1-3 years of relative experience in the manufacturing field preferred
Skills and Knowledge
• Ability to work remotely if needed
• Must have knowledge and experience with Excel, DAT, MyCarrierPortal, Carrier 411, and FMCSA SAFER.
• Knowledge of current market trends and where to find information regarding them; fuel included
• Ability to use computer with proficiency
• Knowledge of DOT weight restrictions, HOS regulations, and other market constraints regarding freight shipments.
• Excellent organizational and record keeping skills.
Compensation
•Negotiable based on skill and experience
•$55k – $65k pay range – base salary
